My superpower is calming chaos. Hi! Thanks for being here. šŸ˜Š The foundation of my consulting practice and blog is based on my particular philosophy on productivity. **To me, productivity is about being intentional**. It's not about being a better worker bee or trying to squeeze more into each day. It's about knowing who and what's important and spending your precious time, energy, and attention on them. This philosophy is born out of some significant life experiences over the last 15 years, including: * Building and growing multiple businesses * Supporting my husband and business partner through cancer and recovery * Supporting our family through a close member's terminal illness and death * Living with Multiple Sclerosis and the impacts it has on my day-to-day * Navigating that whole pandemic thing ... and, of course, all the other normal ups and downs of life. I've learned a lot over the years, the most important being **time is not guaranteed**. Now, I help other entrepreneurs and business leaders: * Develop healthy habits and processes * Get clarity on their values * Spend time, energy and attention on truly what matters * Reduce and prevent burnout **My superpower is calming chaos. I would love to help you calm yours!** * * * The other stuff --------------- ### My background and experience * I have been a full-time entrepreneur since 2009. * I'm a co-founder of a software company called Code and Effect. We built UpsideAMS, association management software (AMS) for professional, regulatory, and member organizations. * I am a University of Alberta graduate with a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Psychology. * I have been writing, coaching and speaking since 2016. * I was awarded an Avenue Magazine Top 40 Under 40 in 2017. * I completed the Roy Groupā€™s The Practice of Coaching course in 2018. ### Volunteering * I mentor entrepreneur teams in the Threshold Impact University of Alberta Venture Mentoring Service (TIVMS). * You can read the whole list of my past volunteer roles on LinkedIn. ### Fun Facts * My husband, Dana, and I have been together since we were 18 and business partners since we were 25. * I am an unapologetic cat lady. After the loss of our two senior kitties, Toby and Penny, we adopted Winston and Stella and are enjoying (most of the time!) life with young cats. * I live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Yes, it gets obscenely cold in the winter. No, I do not enjoy it. * I have done some kind of fitness (yoga, outdoor running, HIIT, strength training, pilates, air bike) every single day since January 1, 2018. * I read around 80 books a year. I mostly read fiction, with a particular soft spot for fantasy, but I often also have a nonfiction book on the go. * Dana and I play video games together. My ideal Saturday morning involves pancakes, coffee, and gaming time. Our favourites are Diablo 3, all three Dark Souls, and Elden Ring. * I am a big NBA basketball fan. My Canadian heart cheers for the Toronto Raptors, but I watch many other teams throughout the season and read a basketball newsletter over breakfast every morning. * I have travelled quite a bit and try to ensure another trip is always on the horizon. My most recent one was my 40th birthday trip to Croatia and Slovenia! * * * Check out my blog or learn more about my productivity consulting and speaking. Wanna chat?

CES 2025 underscored transformative advancements in AI, high-performance computing (HPC), digital twins, and sustainable technologiesā€”areas that directly align with my professional goals to amplify technological research and innovation capabilities. A key observation was the growth in AIā€™s integration since 2024, with a noticeable push to incorporate AI into products across industries. While AI is widely recognized as a game-changer, its execution often focuses on enhancing customer experience and product customization. There was a palpable sense that booths without AI were considered irrelevant. As with many hype-cycle innovations, AIā€™s potential is undeniable, but its current application frequently feels like a solution searching for a problem. **AI and Consumer Tech Integration** NVIDIAā€™s unveiling of the GeForce RTX GPUs and the expansion of Agentic AI capabilities represent a significant leap in computational efficiency and real-time assistance. These advancements are vital for enhancing HPC and AI-driven analytics. Additionally, NVIDIAā€™s partnerships to integrate their chipsets and AI technologies into autonomous vehicles signal the growing convergence of AI and automotive innovation. The next challenge lies in establishing universal safety and operational standards across industries to ensure these technologies evolve responsibly. **Digital Twins and Sustainability** Emerging wearables and AI-driven AR/VR devices continue to leverage AI for health monitoring and vision augmentation, demonstrating the increasing adoption of digital twin concepts in consumer technology. This trend parallels goals for expanding digital twins in research labs to drive operational efficiency and data-informed decision-making. Agricultural innovations, such as John Deereā€™s autonomous tractors and Kubotaā€™s AI-powered precision tools, highlight the potential for digital twins to enhance sustainability. These developments offer opportunities to explore safety standards and frameworks for digital thread technologies that train and refine autonomous AI systems. **Smart Infrastructure and Automation** Hondaā€™s EV models and BMWā€™s Panoramic iDrive reflect advancements in smart infrastructure and connected systems. These innovations resonate with efforts to integrate AI into cloud-based infrastructure and operational processes. Ensuring safety and privacy in these interconnected systems remains a critical focus. **Takeaways for 2025** CES 2025 emphasizes the importance of aligning AI, sustainable innovation, and advanced infrastructure to drive impactful outcomes. These trends present a growing demand signal and a clear foundation for achieving 2025 goals. As 2024 comes to a close, itā€™s a moment to reflect on a year of transformative progress and impactful initiatives within the realms of innovation and technology. This year marked significant strides in digital transformation, with a primary focus on advancing cloud-based infrastructure, AI-driven analytics, and process automation. These efforts not only enhanced operational efficiency but also laid the groundwork for scalable, future-ready systems. The Center of Innovation (COIN) solidified its role as a hub for creative problem-solving and impactful outcomes. Key initiatives emphasized research-centric technology solutions, leveraging emerging technologies to propel forward-thinking projects. This work underscored the power of innovation in driving meaningful change across industries. High-Performance Computing (HPC) took center stage, with the development of a comprehensive roadmap in partnership with TotalCAE. These advancements supported sophisticated research initiatives across ULā€™s five research institutes and set a new benchmark for computational excellence. The introduction of a digital twin for research labs demonstrated the convergence of technology and experimentation, fostering enhanced collaboration and data-driven decision-making. Engagement with external organizations also flourished. Acceptance into Evanta, participation in TechCrunch Disrupt, and involvement with Chicago Innovation strengthened our network and influence. Joining the ā€˜Ageless Innovatorsā€™ program and contributing to the Great Lakes ReNEW initiative showcased our commitment to regional sustainability and innovation. This year, the Research Computing Steering Committee was established to unify strategic goals across multiple disciplines. Moreover, milestones such as joining mHUB and being featured at the Gartner Symposium/XPO cemented our position as leaders in innovation. As we look ahead to 2025, the momentum weā€™ve built in 2024 serves as a testament to whatā€™s possible when creativity, collaboration, and technology converge. Hereā€™s to another year of innovation and impact! šŸŒŸ Exciting News! šŸŒŸ I am thrilled to share that I have been accepted into the 2025 Cohort 13 of Chicago Innovationā€™s Ageless Innovators program, a unique initiative that fosters intergenerational collaboration and innovation. This opportunity resonates deeply with my passion for driving meaningful change through diverse perspectives and creative problem-solving. Additionally, I am honored to have been selected for the Chicago Innovation Fellows program in partnership with Northwestern Kelloggā€™s Center for Research in Technology and Innovation. This fellowship will provide an incredible platform to delve into cutting-edge research and collaborate with some of the brightest minds in the Chicago innovation community. As I embark on these two transformative journeys, I look forward to learning, growing, and contributing to my shared mission of advancing innovation and technology. I am excited to connect with fellow innovators and leaders along the way! **#Innovation** **#Leadership** **#ChicagoInnovation** **#AgelessInnovators** **#NorthwesternKellogg** **#Technology** **#Collaboration** Over the past month, Iā€™ve had the privilege of achieving several significant milestones that reflect my commitment to innovation, leadership, and collaboration. From being recognized by leading organizations to advancing strategic initiatives, these accomplishments highlight my dedication to driving meaningful impact across technology, research, and innovation ecosystems. * Accepted into the **Chicago Innovation Fellows Program**, a prestigious leadership program in collaboration with Northwesternā€™s Kellogg School of Management. * Became a **Full Member of Chicago Innovation** and joined **Cohort 13 of Ageless Innovators**, showcasing my commitment to fostering cross-generational collaboration. * Participated in **Innovation in Action**, tackling the Great Lakes ReNEW initiative, supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF) Innovation Engine, laying groundwork for partnerships with the NSF. * Partnering with Hudson Alpha on the Greening the Southeast initiative NSF Engine development. * Accepted into **Evanta Chicago CIO Community**, expanding my network among technology leaders. * Advanced thought leadership by preparing a blog post reflecting on key events like the Gartner Symposium/XPO, Microsoft Ignite, and TechCrunch Disrupt. * Continued to drive innovation by engaging in efforts to proactively integrate standards development into research and technology initiatives. Over the last 3 weeks I had the privilege of attending two distinct but equally impactful events: the Gartner Symposium/XPO, TechCrunch Disrupt, and joining the Evanta Chicago community. At the **Gartner Symposium/XPO**, the emphasis was on strategic, high-level discussions surrounding digital transformation, AIā€™s expanding role, and how enterprises can accelerate innovation. One of the most striking insights was the emerging consensus on AI not just as a tool but as a core component of business strategy. Sessions on predictive analytics and ethical AI underscored the importance of guiding AI responsibly to harness its full potential. The symposium offered actionable frameworks for digital acceleration that Iā€™m excited to adapt for our work at the Center of Innovation, especially as we further integrate AI-driven analytics and cloud solutions into our initiatives. **TechCrunch Disrupt** brought a refreshingly raw, disruptive energy to the tech conversation. The event showcased startups breaking new ground across sectorsā€”from sustainable tech to, well, obviously, AI and digital twin technology. It was inspiring to witness the boldness with which these startups are challenging norms, and I came away with new ideas to spark further innovation in how I continue to develop strategies around emerging technologies. The enthusiasm and forward-thinking spirit of TechCrunch served as a reminder of the power of agility and creativity in driving change and helped me build a better pitch mentality and tone for the projects I am working on. Finally, joining **Evanta Chicago** was an invaluable experience that marked a new level of peer engagement and collaboration. Connecting with fellow executives will reinforce the importance of shared learning in tackling complex technological challenges. Evantaā€™s focus on building a robust network of leaders is vital in todayā€™s fast-paced tech landscape, and Iā€™m eager to explore data-driven decision-making and digital transformation strategies with the group. These events have expanded my perspective from disruptive startup energy to strategic enterprise focus. As I bring these learnings back to my role, Iā€™m looking forward to exploring new ways to foster innovation, drive transformation, and lead with a vision that aligns both emerging technologies and executive collaboration. This journey through diverse perspectives reaffirms the incredible potential of technology to shape our future. I will be at the Chicago Innovation Nominee Celebration on September 12 at CineCity Studios. I look forward to connecting with the community and ideating with Chicagoā€™s top innovators. If you are attending, let me know. Iā€™d love to talk about tech innovation.

##### Last updated on March 3, 2025 This is a public list of ideas that I would like to work on someday. This is a copy of the ideas note I have in my Obsidian vault, where I jot down interesting projects, concepts, and thoughts that I find intriguing and might want to explore in the future. Since it is not practically possible for anyone to work on every idea they have, I thought it would be better to make this note public so that someone else might build it someday. Ideas that Iā€™m currently working on are crossed out and have been moved to my projects page. Against each idea, Iā€™ve added a short description to provide more context. If you are interested in any of the ideas mentioned below and want to work on them or collaborate with me, feel free to contact me. In case any of the ideas already exist, please let me know, and I will cross them out with a backlink to the project. **Vape with a Puff Limiter**A vape that lets you set the maximum number of puffs you can have in a day via an app or something! Looks like another person has thought about the same .**A Search Engine for Personal Blogs**Iā€™m unable to search for content in personal blogs on google or any other search engine. Kagi small web is there, but itā€™s not personal blog specific.**A World Travel Lottery**A lottery with the grand prize as a fully-expensed, world travel package to visit n countries across all continents**Cricket Guard Line Projector**If you watch cricket, you can see batsmen often marking guard lines against the stumps by asking the umpire. Why canā€™t we have a laser projection of the stumps controlled by the umpire with a remote?**A cheap running tracker**There are multiple running trackers that you can attach to shoes, like Stryd , but these are quite expensive. Why is it so hard to make cheaper running trackers?**A platform to read both sides of an argument.**A moderated platform where a dedicated page is present for popular topics, and people can read about both sides of the argument.**Indian News Aggregator with relevance**India is struggling with misinformation and rigged news. The magnitude is quite high, considering the huge population, the demographics, and the rising internet penetration. A platform like News Minimalist that removes clickbait titles and filters relevant news would be useful for India.**Global Fish Database in different languages**Fishnames are tricky if you travel around the world. Within a country itself, fish names would be different. A global database of fishnames in all different languages would be great!**Bookmark for Videos & Podcasts**I wish there was a tool to record a particular timestamp on a video or a podcast so that I can watch it from the saved timestamp when I resume, rather than scrolling and finding the time.**Strava for Writers**Strava is a great tool to track your activities. As a writer, such a tool would be great to see the number of words written every day and also get a sneak peek at othersā€™ writings.**About Me Collection**I love reading the About Me sections of various personal blogs. A curated list of the best about pages would be cool.**Evergreen Hosting** People put a lot of effort into their blogs, and most often, after the person passes away, these blogs go obsolete. How about a service that you can pay for one-time or in installments, ensuring that your blog stays live forever? _Update: I wrote about in detail here . The Daily publishes several special issues every year, including a New Student Orientation issue, a Big Game issue and a Commencement issue. ### The Corporation The Stanford Daily newspaper is the primary holding of The Stanford Daily Publishing Corporation. Founded in 1973, The Stanford Daily Publishing Corporation operates as a California non-profit corporation headed by the paperā€™s editor-in-chief and business manager. ### History of The Daily The Stanford Daily is the independent, student-run newspaper of Stanford University. The Daily was originally founded as a small pamphlet known as The Daily Palo Alto in 1892 and has been a campus fixture ever since. The Daily strives to serve the Stanford community with relevant, unbiased journalism and provides its editorial, tech and business staffs with unparalleled educational opportunities. The Daily became independent of Stanford University in 1973 after a years-long clash with the administration spurred in part by disagreements over The Dailyā€™s coverage of anti-Vietnam War protests. In particular, a strongly worded 1970 op-ed in the newspaper entitled ā€œSnitches and Oppression,ā€ penned by Diarmuid McGuire M.A. ā€™73, drew concerns from University administrators that the school might be held liable for any violence incited by the article. Independence for The Daily was thus a logical conclusion for both sides: The Dailyā€™s disentanglement from the University would make it impossible for the University to attempt to influence reporting through financial withholding or other means, and the Universityā€™s disentanglement from The Daily would release it of any potential liability for content published in the newspaper. Thus, in 1973, The Stanford Daily Publishing Corporation was incorporated in Santa Clara County as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Independence wasnā€™t the only consequence of The Dailyā€™s coverage of campus antiwar protests; the publication also drew national attention when it sued James Zurcher, the chief of the Palo Alto Police Department, following a surprise search of The Dailyā€™s offices for photographic evidence of protestors that the student-journalists and legal counsel deemed to be in violation of the First and Fourth Amendments. After a district court and court of appeals ruled in favor of The Daily, the case,Ā _Zurcher v. Stanford Daily_,Ā was brought to the Supreme Court of the United States in 1978, with the nationā€™s highest court ruling 5-3 in favor of Zurcher. The ensuing outcry among journalists and the public led to Congressā€™s passage of the Privacy Protection Act of 1980, which established the requirement of a subpoena to search newsrooms for unpublished materials. With the launch of its website in 1995, The Daily became one of the first college newspapers publishing on the Internet. The site is live and continuously updated throughout the year. It features content from the print edition, along with special Web-only content often including live blogs of sporting events and major campus events. The Daily moved out of its old offices in the Storke Publications Building to its new home at the Lorry I. Lokey Stanford Daily Building in 2007, thanks to the generosity of Lorry I. Lokey ā€™49 and hundreds of other benefactors, which would not have been possible without the titanic effort of Arthur Charles Hoffman ā€™73 MBA ā€™76.
